Carmen Sidbeck

Founder, Bookish Sensory Play

Carmen’s life work has been in early childhood education. From the age of 17, she’s been “teaching someone of a young age”. Following 23 years at Memorial Hospital Child Care, she retired to be home with her two granddaughters. For a season, she taught outdoor sensory classes. They included all sorts of messy play, providing parents with information on how to and why we were doing what we were doing. This experience led her to try her hand at creating sensory kits centered around books. With props and articles of interest from the books, a fun and imaginative learning environment is possible. The kits are all hands on with a focus on open-ended play! A curriculum component was also added, so that parents & teachers can expand skills with their children. And that was the beginning of “Bookish Sensory Play".
