WHO IS HEF?
HOME EDUCATION IN FLORIDA
IS LEGAL BECAUSE OF HEF.
In 1984, there were no laws in Florida that made home education legal, but the Dickinsons desired to change the law.
Craig and Brenda contacted Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Orlando) and Sen Dick Langley (R-Clermont) and worked with them to pen and introduce a bill. The bill passed the Legislature, but Gov. Bob Graham's staff placed the bill on a recommend veto list. However, the Dickinsons met with the Governor, Craig was able to address his concerns, and the Governor signed the bill into law. When the sunset provision was up two years later, Governor Martinez signed it permanently into law.
Why we
SUPPORT HEF
Brenda Dickinson and Jason Crawford are Home Education Foundation's full-time lobbyists. They serve Florida families by protecting their home education freedoms, advocating for students and parents' rights, sharing accurate information, and connecting opportunities. They speak at the Capitol on behalf of all parents who want to direct the education of their children. HEF organizes grassroots efforts and informs parents about issues that affect them, assisting them with challenges to their home education program.
Our Vision
We want to help HEF give parents the freedom to direct their child's education and provide families with a broad range of choices and opportunities to meet the education needs of their children.
ABOUT TBHC
It all started with a vision. A vision to educate, a vision to inspire, a vision to empower. A vision to bring together all the key players in our homeschool community - parents, educators, business leaders, co-ops, and students - for connection and collaboration. From that vision, Tampa Bay Homeschool Conference was created.
