RESEARCH RISING STARS – TURNING STUDENT CURIOSITY INTO REAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Lead by

Dr. Rajagopal Apapvu

FOR TEENS ONLY

Research Rising Stars is a passion-driven program designed specifically for middle and high school students, especially homeschool teens, who want to explore authentic scientific research. This session shows students how to turn their curiosity into meaningful research projects in areas such as STEM, biomedical science, artificial intelligence, engineering, and public health. Students will learn how to develop research questions, review existing studies, collaborate with mentors, and present their findings through competitions, publications, or conferences. Homeschool students often have the flexibility to pursue deeper learning, and this program demonstrates how that freedom can lead to strong academic portfolios, valuable research skills, and confidence in scientific inquiry while preparing for future STEM and medical pathways.

TEACHING THE CHILD WHO DOESN’T WANT TO LEARN

Lead by

Rachel Good

Foundations

Children are born learners. It's all they know how to do when they're little. Somewhere along the way, some kids lose some of their desire to learn new things, and this session will guide you in helping to reignite that flame. Doing school at home is not the same as learning at home. A student who seemingly doesn't want to learn could very likely be resisting the format and/or method of their homeschooling. Bring your questions and concerns, and receive some encouraging direction on moving your child/teen from a resistant or struggling student back to an eager and excited learner.

It takes time to de-program and establish a new normal, but the process can be a joyful time as your family begins this adventure.

TURNING TEST ANXIETY INTO CONFIDENCE

Lead by

Candi Schultz

Learning & Innovation

Test anxiety affects nearly every student at some point, often leaving them overwhelmed, unprepared, and doubting themselves. But anxiety can be reframed—not as a barrier, but as usable energy for focus, confidence, and performance. In this interactive workshop, Dennis DiNoia, M.A.Ed. (“Mr. D”), draws from his new book, The Student Becomes the Teacher: Turing Test Anxiety into Confidence, to share practical strategies that turn test anxiety into confidence by combining research-backed tools with real-world teaching techniques. This workshop is designed for both parents and students, covering anxiety that may arise, including test-taking skills, test preparation before the test, strategies for managing test anxiety during the test, and debriefing after the test.

GOAL SETTING WITH THE MERLIN PRINCIPLE: MANIFESTING YOUR DESTINY!

Lead by

Candi Schultz

Learning & Innovation

Goal setting is often thought of as a great idea and something everyone needs to do but we rarely do it and when we do, we usually lose track of the goal along the way. In this workshop, goals are brought to life through creation and conversation. We invite you to step into the realm of magic and transformation as we explore the art of goal setting through the lens of the legendary Merlin Principle. Just as Merlin guided and protected the future king, Arthur, you too will learn to wield the power of intention and wisdom to manifest your own destiny. Everyone participating will create a goal and a visual display for that goal during the workshop.

The great news is that neuroscience has taught us not only how to be better teachers with these issues but also how to change and rewire the brain to overcome learning challenges, regardless of the age of the child or the parent. Come learn about the amazing, malleable brain and how to harness neuroplasticity to help your child learn and reach their full potential.

DOES YOUR STUDENT ACTUALLY PASS THE “DUAL ENROLLMENT READINESS TEST?”

Lead by

Dr. Anthony Abell

Raising & Leading Teens

Dual enrollment can be an incredible blessing or brutal discouragement depending on your student’s level of readiness. GPA’s and test scores are typical qualifiers for dual enrollment eligibility but don’t help you know if your student is actually ready for the rigor of academics, emotional expectations, and thinking skills needed to be successful in college classes. During this session, homeschool parents will discover how to measure true dual enrollment readiness and how to know if those three sometimes forgotten factors: academic skills, emotional maturity, and critical-thinking skills have been developed enough to be successful in a college class. Parents will walk away with a clear picture of why intelligent students sometimes flop in college classes, how to identify gaps in readiness before enrolling in dual credit courses, and what you can do at home to intentionally prepare your student for dual enrollment. Join Dr. Abell and walk away knowing how to make the best decision for your student and family rather than applying pressure that may or may not benefit them in the long run.
